Research Writing

According to Webster’s Dictionary, research comes in two different formats:

1. Careful or diligent search or investigation. This method locates the existing available information and produces summaries of what was found, using facts, figures and info.

2. Studious inquiry or examination. This takes the existing information and attempts to find new facts, theory, or solutions that result in revised thinking and use of the information.

Research is purely a systematic search, or investigation, for knowledge and truth. True research goes where it goes. It’s always best to have an open mind prior to undertaking a research project.

Research starts with questions like:
  What do you want to know?
  Why do you need to know it?
  How do you want to use the information?
  What are your objectives and goals?

Writing — it's only important if you want someone to read it.  And, if you put the effort into writing a piece, it makes sense to do a good job of it.

Generally, the purpose of writing is to record information and/or to communicate a message, idea, or storyline.

There are numerous writing styles, formats and rules, but the type of job dictates which are used.

A business or marketing plan would be an in-depth, professionally written "book", containing a table of contents, summary, history, current plans and actions, projected future plans, graphs, charts, photos, and an appendix.
